Talk through the process once. Get the SOP and the flowchart.
Wavelength is for owners and operations managers who document how work gets done so they can hire and delegate. You explain the task out loud, or upload a recording, and you get both a visual process map and a written SOP with roles, owners, steps, and decision branches.
The hard part of writing an SOP is not the writing. It is reconstructing the process afterward from memory or scattered notes. The decisions and handoffs are the part you forget, and they are the part that matters most when someone new tries to follow the steps.
The demo needs no account. The free plan needs no card.
Why writing SOPs from scratch is slow
You sit down after the walkthrough with a blank document and a half page of notes. You write the happy path first because it is easiest to remember. Then you try to recall the exceptions: what happens if the approval does not come through, who covers when someone is out, which tool they switch to when the first one is down. Those are the steps that make an SOP useful, and they are the ones no one wrote down.
The result is an SOP that covers the common case and quietly drops the edge cases. The next person to follow it hits the first exception and asks you anyway.
How it works
- Hold the mic and explain the task. Talk as if you are training someone who just started. You do not need to follow a script. The actors, steps, decisions, and handoffs appear on the canvas as you mention them.
- Or upload a recording. Drop in a Loom download, a voice memo, or a call recording. Audio and video files up to 120 minutes are supported, counted against your mic minutes.
- Check the dashed amber lines. Anything Wavelength inferred rather than heard renders as a dashed line. Those are the connections to confirm before you export.
- Export the SOP. Choose Export and then SOP document for a .doc file that opens in Word and Google Docs, or Copy SOP as Markdown to paste into Notion or any wiki.
The SOP and the flowchart come from the same source
The flow on the canvas and the SOP document are built from the same conversation. When you fix a step on the canvas, the next export reflects it. You are not maintaining two separate artifacts that drift apart over time.
What the SOP document includes
The exported SOP lists the roles mentioned in the process, the tools involved, and the numbered steps in order. Each step has an owner when the conversation names who does it. Decision points appear as "If" branches with the paths that follow. Open questions the AI could not resolve are called out at the end so you know what to confirm with the people who run the process.
Where it does not fit
Scribe and Tango record clicks on a screen. They are the right tool when the entire process happens in a browser. Wavelength captures the spoken process, including the decisions and handoffs that happen off screen, in email, or in a quick conversation down the hall. Use them together: Scribe for the clicks, Wavelength for the reasoning.
Wavelength also does not write policy documents or compliance frameworks. It documents how work actually gets done, in the words of the person who does it. If you need formal compliance language, write that on top of the SOP it produces.
Common questions
Can I edit the SOP after it is generated?
Yes. The flow is editable on the canvas, and the SOP regenerates from the current flow when you export. Change a step or an owner and the document reflects it.
What file format is the SOP document?
A .doc file that opens in Microsoft Word and Google Docs. You can also copy the SOP as Markdown for Notion or any wiki.
How long can the recording be?
Audio and video files up to 120 minutes. The minutes count against your plan's mic minutes.
Does this replace Scribe or Tango?
No. Scribe and Tango record clicks on a screen. Wavelength captures the spoken process, including decisions and handoffs that happen off screen. Use them together.
Can I assign owners to steps in the SOP?
Yes. Each step has an owner field. The owner comes from the conversation when someone is named, and you can edit it on the canvas.
