Why talking beats typing here
There is already a good category of tools that turn written text into a diagram. You write a prompt describing a process, and you get a finished flow chart back. Those work well, and if you already know the process end to end, that is probably all you need.
The problem is that the moment you most need a diagram is usually the moment you cannot write that prompt yet. On a discovery call, the process is being revealed to you in fragments, out of order, with corrections. Somebody says "and then it goes to the warehouse system, well, actually it hits the queue first." You cannot write a clean paragraph describing a thing you are learning in real time. But you can talk about it, and so can they.
Text to diagram assumes you finished understanding. Voice to diagram assumes you are still in the middle of it.

Any tool that turns speech into structure is going to guess sometimes. The failure mode is not that it guesses, it is that you cannot tell which parts were guesses. Rendering inferred connections differently from heard ones means you can scan a diagram at the end of a call and know exactly which three things to double-check before you send it to the customer.

Where voice to diagram is the wrong tool
Being honest about this is more useful than pretending otherwise.
- Formal notation. If you need proper UML, BPMN 2.0, ERDs, or network diagrams with correct symbology, use a general diagramming suite. Wavelength does process and data flow, not the full shape library.
- Precise visual layout. If the diagram is going in a board deck and every element has to sit exactly where you want it, you will fight the auto-layout.
- Noisy rooms and heavy accents. Speech recognition is good, not perfect. In a bad audio environment, pasting the transcript afterward works better than live dictation.
- Solo documentation of a known system. If you already have the whole thing in your head and just need it drawn, typing a prompt into any text-to-diagram tool is faster than narrating it.
