AI diagram generator from text
Type or paste a description of a process. Wavelength reads it and draws an editable flowchart, with people, systems, decisions, and data stores in the right order. You do not need an account to try it.
Wavelength is a voice to diagram tool that turns a spoken process or a call transcript into an editable flowchart. This page is the text version: paste words, get a diagram.
How it works
- You describe the process. Write it the way you would explain it to a new colleague. Name the people, the teams, and the tools.
- Wavelength finds the parts. It picks out each person or team, each system, each data store, and each decision.
- It draws the flow in process order. Each actor or tool appears one time. Actions go on the arrows. A decision gets a diamond with labeled branches.
- It shows its guesses. If the AI connects two things that your text does not connect, it draws that line dashed and amber. You confirm it or delete it.
- You edit it. Drag nodes, rename them, or type a change in plain English, such as "add a step where finance approves anything over $500."
Write a description that makes a good diagram
The AI can only draw what you tell it. These five habits give the best result:
- Name who does each step. "Support checks the order" is better than "the order is checked."
- Name the tools. "in Salesforce" or "in Jira" lets Wavelength draw the system node.
- Say the condition for each decision. "If the amount is over $5,000, it goes to the director. If not, it goes straight to finance."
- Say what happens on both branches. If you leave one branch out, Wavelength leaves it out too. It does not invent steps.
- Keep one process per diagram. If you describe onboarding and payroll together, you get one crowded diagram. Split them.
A worked example
Text in:
Suppliers email invoices to the accounts payable inbox. Bill.com captures each invoice and reads the amount. If the invoice is under 5000 dollars, the budget owner approves it. If it is 5000 dollars or more, the controller also approves it. Approved invoices sync to NetSuite and are paid on the next payment run.
Diagram out: a Suppliers actor, an Accounts Payable Inbox, a Bill.com system node, an Invoice Amount Check decision with "< $5000" and "≥ $5000" branches, Budget Owner and Controller actors, NetSuite, and the Payment Run. You can see this flow, and open it in the editor, on the invoice approval workflow example.
What kinds of diagrams it makes
It makes process flows and data flows. Good inputs include approval workflows, onboarding steps, support escalation, order to cash, incident response, lead routing, and data pipelines such as "Fivetran loads Salesforce into Snowflake, and dbt builds the marts." See the flow diagram examples for 37 worked examples that you can open as an editable copy.
It does not make UML class diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, network diagrams, org charts with real hierarchy tools, mind maps, or floor plans. For those, use a general diagram tool. See Lucidchart alternatives for the options.
Text, voice, or a file
This page takes typed text. The full product takes more:
- Voice. Hold the mic and talk. The diagram builds while you speak. Try it on the live demo.
- Transcripts. Paste or upload a Zoom, Teams, Gong, or Fireflies transcript as .txt, .vtt, .srt, .json, .pdf, or .docx. See transcript to flowchart.
- Existing diagrams. Import Visio .vsdx, draw.io, or Mermaid files. You can bring Lucidchart diagrams as Visio exports.
- Photos and screen recordings. Upload a whiteboard photo or a screen recording, and Wavelength reads the steps from it.
Why process order matters
People rarely describe a process in order. They name the main steps, then go back and add detail to an earlier step. A simple text to diagram tool puts that late detail at the end of the chart, where it does not belong. Wavelength builds the flow in the order the work runs, so a detail that you add later goes back to the step it belongs to.
Wavelength also keeps one node for each real thing. If you mention Salesforce three times, you get one Salesforce node with three connections, not three Salesforce boxes. When one team does several things in a row, those actions form one ordered chain instead of a fan of loose boxes. These rules are the difference between a diagram you can send to a customer and a diagram you must redraw.
Export the result
With a free account, you can save up to 5 flows and export each one to PNG, PDF, PowerPoint, draw.io, or Mermaid code. The Mermaid code pastes into GitHub, Notion, and most Markdown editors.
When this is the wrong tool
If you already know exactly how the diagram should look, and you want to place every box yourself, a drawing tool is faster. draw.io is free, and Lucidchart and Visio are strong paid options. This generator is for the moment when the process is in words, in your notes, in a transcript, or in someone's head, and you want a first draft in seconds instead of an hour.

Common questions
Is the AI diagram generator free?
Yes. The demo makes up to 5 diagrams a day from text up to 1,200 characters, with no account. A free account saves up to 5 flows and takes full transcripts.
Is my text saved?
The demo does not save your text or your diagram. The text goes to our AI provider to build the diagram. See the AI and data page for how Wavelength handles data.
What does the AI do when my description is unclear?
It draws what you said. When it infers a link that your text does not state, it draws the link dashed and amber so you can confirm or delete it. It does not invent extra steps or branches.
Can I edit the diagram after it is generated?
Yes. Drag, rename, delete, or reconnect any node by hand, or describe a change in plain English. Save the flow with a free account.
How is this different from Lucidchart AI?
Lucidchart is a general diagram suite with AI features added. Wavelength is built around turning words and speech into process flows, and it marks every guessed link so you can check it.
