Turn a meeting recording into an SOP
Upload the recording of a meeting where someone walked through a task. Wavelength transcribes the audio, builds a process map from the transcript, and exports a written SOP. The SOP lists the roles, the tools, each numbered step with its owner, each decision with its branches, and the open questions. A recording can be up to 120 minutes long.
The free SOP generator works from a task that you describe live. This page is for the meeting that already happened and is on a recording.
The demo needs no account. The free plan needs no card.
What happens to the recording
- Your browser reads the file. Wavelength takes .mp3, .m4a, .wav, .webm, .ogg, .mp4, .mov, and .aac files. A recording longer than 120 minutes is refused.
- You confirm the minutes. Before it starts, Wavelength shows the length of the recording and the mic minutes it will use. Transcription counts toward your monthly mic minutes.
- The audio is transcribed in parts. The browser splits the audio into 3 minute parts and sends them one at a time. A progress bar shows each part. If you cancel, you keep the text so far.
- A video also gets screen notes. For a video, Wavelength also reads the frames where the screen changed and adds short notes under the heading "What the screen recording shows". A screen recording with no sound gets screen notes only.
- The text lands in the transcript box. Trim it, then build the map.
Mic minutes per month: Free has 30, Starter has 4 hours, and Pro has 10 hours. The 7 day Pro trial includes 60 mic minutes. A 45 minute recording needs a Starter or Pro plan, or the trial.
How it works
- Upload the recording. Click Upload in the transcript panel and pick the file.
- Build the map. Wavelength finds the roles, the steps, the tools, and the decisions.
- Fix the owners. Each SOP step needs an owner. Check that each step connects to the right role.
- Confirm the guesses. Dashed amber lines are links the AI inferred. Confirm them or delete them.
- Export the SOP. Open Export and pick SOP document (.doc), or copy the SOP as Markdown for your wiki.
What the SOP contains
- The title, a version line, and the date.
- Roles: each person or team in the process.
- Tools and systems: each system and data store.
- Procedure: numbered steps, each with its owner and any notes. Each decision is an "If" line with one line for each branch.
- Open questions: the gaps that the map still has.
The .doc file opens in Microsoft Word and in Google Docs.
A worked example: an expense claim walkthrough
An office manager recorded a short call to explain how expense claims work. This is part of the recording:
The SOP from this part of the recording has this shape:
By hand or with Wavelength
| Task | By hand | With Wavelength |
|---|---|---|
| Get the words | You replay the recording and type notes. | Wavelength transcribes the recording. |
| Order the steps | You rebuild the order from your notes. | The map puts the steps in process order. |
| Name the owners | You guess who does each step. | Each step connects to its owner on the map. |
| Write the SOP | You write each step in a document. | Export an SOP document or copy it as Markdown. |
| Find what is missing | A reader finds it weeks later. | Open questions are listed at the end of the SOP. |
Limits to know
- A recording can be up to 120 minutes. Split a longer meeting into two files.
- Transcription uses mic minutes from your plan.
- The SOP is a draft of what people said. Ask the process owner to read it before you publish it.
- To keep the SOP where your team works, save the flow to a Confluence page with its summary and open questions.

Common questions
Which recording files can I upload?
Audio and video files: .mp3, .m4a, .wav, .webm, .ogg, .mp4, .mov, and .aac.
How long can a recording be?
Up to 120 minutes. Transcription counts toward your monthly mic minutes: 30 on Free, 4 hours on Starter, and 10 hours on Pro.
Does Wavelength keep the audio?
No. Wavelength does not store your audio. It keeps the transcript text with the flow. Deleting the flow deletes its transcript.
What format is the SOP?
Export an SOP document (.doc) that opens in Word and Google Docs, or copy the SOP as Markdown.
Can I upload a screen recording with no talking?
Yes. Wavelength reads the frames where the screen changed and writes short step notes. Then it builds the map from the notes.
