Lucid Process Capture alternative, on every plan
Lucid Process Capture records your screen while you do a task and turns the recording into a diagram and a written SOP. It is a good feature. But Lucid makes it available only on the Enterprise plan, and it limits each capture to 5 minutes and each user to 25 minutes a month.

Wavelength is a voice to diagram tool that turns a spoken process or a call transcript into an editable flowchart. Wavelength also reads screen recordings. You upload a recording, with or without narration, and Wavelength builds an editable process flow from what it sees and hears. Screen capture is on every Wavelength plan, including the free plan.
We checked Lucid's Process Capture help article on October 7, 2026. Lucid can change its plans and limits. Check the article for current details.
Process Capture and Wavelength, side by side
| Lucid Process Capture | Wavelength screen capture | |
|---|---|---|
| Plans | Enterprise only. Not on FedRAMP accounts or for limited-access users | Every plan: Free, Starter, and Pro |
| How you record | Lucid records your screen in the browser while you work | You upload a recording from any tool: Loom, Zoom, Teams, or the recorder in your operating system |
| Length | Up to 5 minutes per capture | Recordings up to 2 hours. Wavelength picks up to 24 screens where the screen changed |
| Monthly limit | 25 minutes per user per month, no rollover | A monthly number of screen reads per plan (see below). Narration uses your mic minutes |
| Narration | Optional, recommended for accuracy | Optional. If the recording has sound, Wavelength transcribes it and uses it with the screens |
| Output | A diagram, images, and a written SOP | An editable process flow. Generate a written SOP from the flow in one step |
| Edit after capture | Edit the diagram on the Lucid canvas | Edit by voice, by typed prompt, or by hand |
| Screenshots in the SOP | Yes | No. The SOP is text, one step for each node |
The real difference is who can use it
Process documentation is not only an Enterprise problem. A five-person operations team at a growing company needs SOPs more than a large company with a process office. With Lucid, that team must buy an Enterprise contract to get Process Capture. Lucid does not show an Enterprise price on its pricing page. You contact sales.
With Wavelength, the same team can start on the free plan with no card, and upgrade to Starter at $9.99 a month or Pro at $19.99 a month when they need more. See the Lucidchart pricing breakdown for the full plan comparison.
Wavelength screen capture limits
Wavelength reads the screens of a recording three at a time. Each read counts against a monthly number on your plan. A recording uses up to 8 reads, because Wavelength picks at most 24 screens. A short recording with few screen changes uses fewer.
| Plan | Screen and photo reads | About how many long recordings | Mic minutes for narration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 8 a month | 1 a month | 30 a month |
| Starter | 80 a month | 10 a month | 4 hours a month |
| Pro | 240 a month | 30 a month | 10 hours a month |
The 7-day Pro trial includes 24 reads in total. Photos of a whiteboard use the same reads. We set these limits because every read runs an AI vision model, and that has a real cost per user.
How to turn a screen recording into a flow
- Record the task. Use any screen recorder. Talk while you work if you can: "now I check the customer's plan in Salesforce." Narration makes the flow more accurate.
- Upload the recording. In Wavelength, select Upload above the transcript box and choose the video file.
- Let Wavelength read it. Wavelength picks the frames where the screen changed in your browser, reads them, and adds the notes under the transcript of your narration.
- Check the flow. Wavelength draws the steps, the decisions, the systems, and the people. Fix anything by voice or by hand.
- Write the SOP. Generate a written standard operating procedure from the flow, and share it as a link or a file.
Other ways to capture a process
A screen recording is one way to capture a process. It is the best way when the process lives in software. For other processes, Wavelength gives you more inputs than Process Capture:
- Talk it through. Hold the mic and describe the process. Wavelength draws while you talk.
- Use a meeting. Paste a transcript from Zoom, Teams, Gong, or any note taker, or upload the call recording.
- Take a photo. Upload a photo of a whiteboard or a paper diagram.
- Import a diagram. Upload Visio, draw.io, or Mermaid files. See how to switch from Lucidchart.
Privacy and data handling
Wavelength picks the frames where the screen changed in your browser. Only those frames go to the vision model, not the whole video. Before you record, close any window that shows customer data, passwords, or other private information, because the model reads what is on the screen. Lucid says its captured recordings are stored with the document, and that anyone with view access to the document can view and download the file. See the Wavelength AI and data page and the subprocessor list for how Wavelength handles your data.
When Lucid Process Capture is the better choice
Choose Lucid Process Capture if your company already pays for Lucid Enterprise and your team works in Lucidchart every day. The diagram lands on the same canvas as your other Lucid documents. Choose it also if you need screenshots inside the SOP, because Wavelength writes a text SOP without images. And choose it if your admins need to control AI features from the Lucid admin panel, because Lucid lets them turn Process Capture on or off on its own.
Choose Wavelength if you are not on Lucid Enterprise, if your recordings are longer than 5 minutes, if you capture processes from calls and conversations as often as from screens, or if you want to edit the result by voice.
