ServiceNow integration

Put the process you mapped on a call into the ServiceNow record where the work happens. The diagram and the summary go into an incident, a change, a problem, or a requested item.

Every plan, including Free. Your ServiceNow admin registers Wavelength once.

What you can do

Add the runbook to an incident

Search by number or short description, such as INC0010023, and add the flow as a work note with the diagram attached.

Show the process in a change request

Attach the current flow to the change, so the reviewers see each step and owner that the change touches.

Open a new record from a flow

Create an incident, a change request, a problem, or a requested item. The flow title becomes the short description.

How it works

  1. Open a flow, click Export, then Send to ServiceNow.
  2. The first time, enter your instance, such as acme.service-now.com, and the client ID and client secret from your ServiceNow admin.
  3. Sign in to ServiceNow and allow access.
  4. Pick the record type: Incident, Change request, Problem, or Requested item.
  5. Search for a record and click Add to record, or create a new record.

You can also send a flow from Claude, ChatGPT, or another AI assistant with the Wavelength connector. See Wavelength MCP.

Admin setup

ServiceNow has no shared app for Wavelength. Each company registers Wavelength in its own instance one time.

  1. In ServiceNow, open System OAuth, then Application Registry, then New.
  2. Choose Create an OAuth API endpoint for external clients.
  3. Set the redirect URL to https://wavelengthflow.com/oauth/servicenow.html.
  4. Give the client ID and the client secret to the people who use Wavelength.

Worked example

An on-call engineer explains a recovery on a call:

"When the payment queue backs up, we restart the worker. If the queue does not drain in ten minutes, we fail over to the second region and tell the support lead."

What lands in ServiceNow

  • A work note that starts with "From Wavelength" and the flow title, then the summary lines.
  • On Pro and higher plans, a link to the flow. On Free, the link is left out.
  • The diagram as a PNG attachment on the record.
  • For a new record, the flow title as the short description and the same text in the description.

Who uses this

  • IT runbooks: Keep the recovery steps on the incident the next on-call engineer opens.
  • Compliance and audit: Put the process map on the change request that an auditor reviews.

Security and permissions

Wavelength connects to your own instance with OAuth. It reads records only to search them, and it writes only the work notes, records, and attachments that you send.

Wavelength stores the client secret and the tokens encrypted. Disconnect in Settings, then Connected apps. Your admin can also remove the registry entry in ServiceNow.

The Trust Center and the subprocessor list show how Wavelength handles your data.

Common questions

Does Wavelength work with ServiceNow?

Yes. Wavelength adds a flow to an incident, a change request, a problem, or a requested item. It writes a work note with the summary and attaches the diagram as a PNG. It can also create a new record from a flow.

Who sets up the connection?

A ServiceNow admin registers Wavelength once in your instance, under System OAuth, then Application Registry. Each person then enters the instance, the client ID, and the client secret in Wavelength and signs in to ServiceNow.

Which instances work?

Instances on service-now.com or servicenowservices.com, such as acme.service-now.com.

Which record types can I use?

Incident, Change request, Problem, and Requested item.

Which plans include ServiceNow?

Every plan, including Free. The link to the flow in the work note needs Pro or higher.
