Wavelength

Switch from Lucidchart without redrawing anything

Export each Lucidchart document as Visio .vsdx. Then upload up to 50 files at the same time. Lucidchart exports each document as a Visio .vsdx file. Wavelength reads .vsdx files in your browser and turns each one into an editable flow. You can drop many files at the same time.

Wavelength is a voice to diagram tool that turns a spoken process or a call transcript into an editable flowchart. After the import, you can change the diagram by voice, by typed prompt, or by hand.

The short version

  1. In Lucidchart, open a document. Open the More menu at the top left of the canvas, hover over Export, and select Visio (VSDX). The file downloads to your computer.
  2. Do step 1 for each document you want to move. Put all the .vsdx files in one folder.
  3. In Wavelength, select Upload above the transcript box. Select all the .vsdx files in the folder.
  4. Wavelength saves each file as its own flow and opens the first one. The file name becomes the flow title.

The import runs in your browser. Wavelength does not send the file to an AI model, so an import does not use any of your AI calls.

Which Lucidchart plans can export to Visio

Lucid's help center says that Visio export needs an Individual, Team, or Enterprise account. The Free plan cannot export to Visio. Lucid's pricing page lists "Visio import and export" as part of the Individual plan, at $9 per month when billed annually.

If you are on the Lucidchart Free plan, you have two other paths:

  • Take a photo or a screenshot. Upload an image of the diagram. Wavelength reads the steps in the image and builds a new flow from them. This uses one capture from your plan.
  • Talk it through. Open the diagram on one screen. Hold the mic in Wavelength and describe the process. Wavelength draws it as you talk. You can fix old mistakes while you talk.

Lucid can change its plans and features. Check Lucid's pricing page and Lucid's export help article for current details. We checked both on October 6, 2026.

Why you export one document at a time

Lucid's export help article says that bulk export is not available. You export each document from its own canvas. Lucid community members have asked for a bulk Visio export, and the request is open as an idea on the Lucid community site.

Wavelength accepts up to 50 files in one upload. So the slow part is the export in Lucidchart, not the import. If you have 40 documents, plan for about 40 exports. Start with the diagrams your team opens every week. Many old diagrams do not need to move at all.

What comes across, and what does not

Item in your Lucidchart diagramAfter import to Wavelength
Shapes with textBecome nodes with the same text
Connectors between shapesBecome edges, with the connector label if it has one
Diamond shapes, or text that ends in "?"Become decision nodes. Lines out of a decision become decision branches
Database and cylinder shapesBecome data store nodes
Containers, such as a cloud, VPC, or zone boxBecome a group that holds the shapes inside it
Lucid AWS, Azure, and GCP iconsBecome system nodes, or data store nodes for databases and storage
Exact positions, colors, and fontsNot kept. Wavelength lays out the flow again in its own style
Shapes with no textSkipped
Pages after the first pageNot imported. Export each page you need as its own file, or copy it to its own document first
Links to pages, layers, or other documentsNot kept. Lucid's Visio export only keeps web links

The layout changes because Wavelength is not a drawing canvas. It is a process tool. It places the nodes in the order the process runs. Positions, colors, and fonts do not carry over. Drag the nodes to restore a layout that people know by sight.

Other files Wavelength can import

The same upload button reads these diagram files. All of them are read in your browser.

  • Visio: .vsdx files from Visio, Lucidchart, or any tool that exports Visio.
  • draw.io and diagrams.net: .drawio files, and .xml files that draw.io saved, compressed or not.
  • Mermaid: .mmd and .mermaid files with a flowchart or graph block.

The upload button also reads transcripts (.txt, .md, .vtt, .srt, .json, .pdf, and .docx), audio and video recordings, and photos of a whiteboard.

What you get after the switch

A diagram in Lucidchart is a drawing. You change it by moving shapes. A flow in Wavelength is also a process model, so you can change it in more ways:

  • Edit by voice. Hold the mic and say "after the manager approves, finance pays the vendor." Wavelength adds the step in the right place.
  • Edit by prompt. Type "add a rejection path from the approval step back to the requester."
  • Write the SOP. Turn the flow into a written standard operating procedure, with one step for each node.
  • Export it again. Download PNG or PDF, copy Mermaid code, or export to draw.io, BPMN, or PowerPoint.
  • Share a live link. Publish a read-only page that anyone can open without an account.

A practical migration plan

  1. List the diagrams people use. Ask your team which ten diagrams they open most. Those move first.
  2. Export those ten. Use the Visio (VSDX) export in Lucidchart. Name each file well, because the file name becomes the flow title.
  3. Import and check. Upload all ten at the same time. Open each flow and check the decisions and the line labels. Fix any small errors by voice or by hand.
  4. Share the new links. Replace the old Lucidchart links in your wiki or runbook with Wavelength share links.
  5. Move the rest in batches. Import the remaining diagrams 50 at a time.

What comes with you

  • Your process maps. Each .vsdx file becomes an editable flow, with its steps, decisions, and line labels.
  • Your tools. Send flows to Confluence, Jira, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Notion, and Slack.
  • Your formats. Export PNG, PDF, PowerPoint, draw.io, Mermaid, and BPMN 2.0 on every plan.
  • Your team. On Pro, invite your team once, share team folders, and add collaborators to each flow.

Wavelength lays out each imported flow again, so check the layout of any diagram people know by sight.

Common questions

Can Wavelength import Lucidchart files directly?

Not the native Lucidchart format. Export each Lucidchart document as Visio (VSDX) from the More menu, then upload the .vsdx files to Wavelength. Visio export needs a Lucidchart Individual, Team, or Enterprise account.

Can I import many diagrams at the same time?

Yes. Select up to 50 .vsdx, .drawio, or Mermaid files in one upload. Each file becomes its own saved flow, inside your plan's flow limit. Lucidchart itself exports one document at a time.

Does the import use AI calls from my plan?

No. Wavelength reads Visio, draw.io, and Mermaid files in your browser. No AI model sees the file, and the import does not count against your monthly AI calls.

Will my diagram look the same after the import?

The text, the connections, the decisions, and the line labels come across. The exact positions, colors, and fonts do not. Wavelength lays out the flow again in process order.

What if I am on the Lucidchart Free plan?

The Free plan cannot export to Visio. Upload a screenshot of the diagram instead, and Wavelength reads the steps from the image. Or describe the process out loud and let Wavelength draw it.
