Comparison
Lucidchart alternatives, AI tools included, compared by the job you need done
Most "Lucidchart alternatives" lists rank tools by feature count. That does not help you choose. A better question is what job you need the diagram to do. This page compares six alternatives by that question, with prices taken from each vendor's own page.
Wavelength is a voice to diagram tool that turns a spoken process or a call transcript into an editable flowchart. It is the first tool on this page. For each of the other five, we list the facts and the reason teams move to Wavelength.

Why people look for a Lucidchart alternative
People usually leave Lucidchart for one of four reasons:
- The free plan limits. Lucidchart Free allows 3 editable documents and 75 shapes per document, according to Lucid's pricing page.
- The cost per seat. Individual is $9 per month and Team is $10 per user per month, both billed annually. A team of 20 on Team pays about $2,400 a year.
- They already pay for something else. Many companies already have Microsoft 365 or Miro, and do not want a second diagram tool.
- Drawing is the slow part. The diagram depends on someone who knows the process and has time to drag boxes. That person is often busy.
Wavelength answers all four. The free plan needs no card, a seat costs less, viewers need no seat, and Wavelength draws the flow while someone talks.

1. Wavelength: talk, and it draws
Wavelength builds the diagram from speech. You hold the mic and describe the process, or you paste a call transcript, and Wavelength draws the actors, systems, decisions, and data stores. Links that the AI inferred show as dashed amber lines until you confirm them. You can edit by voice, by typed prompt, or by hand.
Our pricing: Free holds 5 saved flows with no card. Starter is $4.99 per month. Pro is $9.99 per month with no flow limit. Wavelength imports Visio .vsdx, draw.io, and Mermaid files, so you can bring your Lucidchart diagrams with you.
Teams use it for discovery calls, process mapping workshops, SOP interviews, implementation kickoffs, and any meeting where someone explains how work moves.
2. draw.io
draw.io (also called diagrams.net) is free. Its source code is under the Apache 2.0 license. You do not need an account to start. The draw.io site lists integrations with Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint, Confluence, Jira, GitHub, VS Code, and Notion.
Why teams move to Wavelength: in draw.io a person still draws every box and arrow. Wavelength draws the first version while someone talks, and it exports a draw.io file on every plan.
3. Microsoft Visio
Microsoft's pricing page lists Visio Plan 1 at $5 per user per month and Visio Plan 2 at $15 per user per month, both paid yearly. Plan 1 is the web app. Plan 2 adds the desktop app, BPMN 2.0 support, and more than 250,000 shapes. A lightweight Visio web app is also included in Microsoft 365 commercial plans.
Why teams move to Wavelength: Wavelength runs in any browser, imports .vsdx files, and exports BPMN 2.0 on every plan, including Free.
4. Miro
Miro's pricing page lists Free (3 boards), Starter at $8 per member per month, and Business at $20 per member per month, both billed yearly. Starter includes Visio and Lucidchart import, and paid plans include AI credits each month.
Why teams move to Wavelength: a workshop board ends with sticky notes that someone must redraw. Wavelength ends the meeting with a structured process map that the room already confirmed.
5. Mermaid
Mermaid is an open source text syntax. You write a few lines, and GitHub, GitLab, Notion, and many Markdown tools draw the diagram.
Why teams move to Wavelength: the people who know the process rarely write syntax. Wavelength draws from their words and gives engineers the Mermaid. See Wavelength vs diagram as code.
6. Pen and paper
A sketch on paper is fast, but nobody else can edit it. Take a photo of the sketch or a whiteboard, and Wavelength turns it into an editable flow.
What changes when you switch to Wavelength
Wavelength builds the map from the call, imports your Lucidchart files as .vsdx, and starts on Free with no card. See how to move your Lucidchart files.
